What am I doing here?

”What the hell am I doing here?” Probably this is the question that all the people starting a new live abroad ask to themselves at some point. Either for professional, academic or other reasons. In my case I’ve come to Copenhagen, Denmark to study Civil Engineering, which is known in Spain for a much cooler name, Ingenieria de Caminos, Canales y Puertos. Within the next two years I will be studying a MSc in the Denmark Technical University or DTU.

After coming back from Helsinki I took the decision that I wanted to study abroad again, so after a long and tedious process full of worries, disappointments and eventually joy I got accepted in the DTU to study the MSC in Civil Engineering. Some people might believe that I’m crazy for keep studying  after the nightmare which is my current college, ETSI Montes, but I have to say that I still had one year of studies remaining so why don’t study two years instead of one so I get another degree? To all that call me crazy, I answer them back you guys are the insane ones staying in Spain with the current Crisis. I won’t make the mistake of saying that my decision is the best one, nor that I have my success guaranteed, but at least in some years, in the unemployment office I could say to myself “You did your best” and no one could take that away from me.

However, I have to say that I had a job interview in Copenhagen, even before that leaving Spain. I might not get the job, but at least I got something that seems impossible in Spain right now, so I truly believe that taking my suitcase and becoming an expatriate was a great decision.

How everything will end? We’ll see…

How everything started

Finally I decided to start this blog to tell us more about this coming period living in Denmark. I might have started when I was in Erasmus in Finland, so I could’ve helped someone with all the information I could’ve written down. But anyway, better late than never so here I am writing this first post.

While I’m writing this, I am inside an Iberia A-320 which is taking me to Copenhagen, and I ask myself, how the hell did I get here? Maybe the first milestone was my Erasmus in Helsinki two years ago, but my travelling curiosity started earlier. Even earlier than my first trip abroad, to Firenze, 9 years ago already, but even there we wouldn’t be even closer to that moment. Paradoxically, since we are talking about travelling, it has the beginning in a very domestic situation when I was 10. Ignorant as I was I asked my aunt if Santander was near Almeria( for those that are not that much into the Spanish geography, just check google maps) as I was very wrong she couldn’t but laugh loudly. If there’s anything that drives me crazy since I was a kid is to think that someone is making fun of me, so I took an atlas book to solve that lack of geographical knowledge. I did not only realized how “fucking far away” Almeria and Santander are, but also that we were surrounded by a number of amazing countries, cities, and different places that captivated me since that very moment.

Yeah, we could say that everything started with atlas…

From Carlsbergland with love(english version)

As you might guess this is the english version of the original blog "From Carlsbergland with love" written in Spanish. I was thinking about doing it but Ryan gave me the little prod that I needed. It'll take longer to be updated since for me is much easier to write in Spanish than in English. Of course there will be a lot of mistakes so I would be glad if you can note them to me so i can solve them and improve my english skills. Anyway, here we go with the first post
